2021 Sweeney Homestead "Culla Hill' 195 viewsI was touring around Eltham in February 2021 and saw the the heavy roadside bushes outside the front fence of Culla Hill had been removed, giving us a wonderful view of the old homestead. The higher roof centre and right is the older portion of the house and the lower roofline on the left is a later edition.

He married Rubina Beaton in 1910 and they had four children Patricia (1911), Donald (1914), Enid (1919) and John (1921). This photo, taken in July 1929, shows him and his daughter Patricia attending an Afternoon Tea Party in the Garden of Buckingham Palace. At that time Kevin held the position as the Secretary to the Australian Ambassador at Australia House in London while his wife Rubina and the children lived in Brugge in Belgium.

Ned Kent owned the Plenty Pub and pubs in Diamond Creek, Christmas Hills and Bulleen and an orchard in Eltham. He is shown seated on a horse outside the Plenty Pub at Lower Plenty while we think it is Susan seated on the steps with a group of others. As he died in 1907, aged 49, this photo must predate that date.

A grandson of original settlers Peter and Hannah Carrucan, Jim had lived all his life in Kinglake, north of Melbourne. His mother Margaret (Mattie) Carrucan was the youngest of 10 children born to Peter and Hannah. Jim and wife Bess were farmers. Jim is survived by Bess, along with their 6 children James, Noelene, Josephine, Anthony, Peter and Michael, along with 17 grand children and 8 great grand children.
