Post war, he worked on boats between Australia and New Zealand for a number of years before finally settling in New Zealand and marrying Agnes Beryl Connolly (1905-1986). They had 13 children, thus founding what is now a very strong New Zealand branch of the Carrucan clan.
Antoinette Kesha advises: 'This photo of the 13 Carrucan brothers and sisters was taken at Nana's funeral (14/01/86). I recall it was the first time they had all been together in years.'

1995 - Agnes Josephine OBryan - Sister Michelle31 viewsAgnes Josephine O'Bryan (1915-2007), the second daughter of Hannah Sloan and Michael O'Bryan, was born in 1911.
She decided to enter the Mercy Sisters after her 21st birthday, trained as a teacher at Ascot Vale and taught in Mercy secondary schools for 60 years. Initially known as Sister Michael, she changed her religious name to Sr. Michelle after the Second Vatican Council.
She celebrated her Diamond Jubilee in 1997 and retired again to Rice Village retirement Village where her books were not far away. She died in 2007.
She was a great grand child of Peter and Hannah Carrucan.

In February 2009, huge bushfires swept through Victoria, destroying many towns including their own. Bessie and Jim were amongst the lucky ones whose properties were spared and they sheltered many of the locals in their house, thus saving many lives. They were featured in a couple of Melbourne Herald Sun articles in the subsequent period. Here is one of the articles.

Fromelle Statue in Melbourne27 viewsThomas Michael Carrucan, born 1892, was the eldest of the 6 children born to Michael and Margaret Carrucan of Kew and was thus one of the grand children of Peter Carrucan and Hannah Woods. He served in WWI and was in the battle of Fromelles, which occurred on 19-20 July 1916. This was perhaps the most harrowing battle ever undertaken by Australian soldiers. Luckily he returned to his family after the war.
This statue, commemorating that battle, is at the Shrine in Melbourne.

1940s - Lieutenant Bernadine Theresa McMahon52 viewsBernadine McMahon was born at Boulder, WA and served as a Nurse in the Australian Army during World War 2. She enlisted on 26 October 1942 from Burracoppin, WA, and died on 3 September 1945. Her posting at the time of her death is listed on her service record as 2/2 Australian General Hospital. Her rank was 'Sister'. The newspaper reported that she died at the Heidelberg Military Hospital from a tropical illness contracted while serving with the 2/7 AGH at Lae. She trained at Perth Hospital and the Women's Hospital, Melbourne. She spent some time nursing in the Eastern States before returning to WA to enlist in the AANS in 1942. After serving two years at Hollywood Military Hospital she gave the remainder of her service with the 2/7 AGH, Lae, New Guinea.

The Reichstag has been re designed as a living museum and is situated in central Berlin.
In an ironic twist of fate, Kevin Joseph is the grandson of Thomas Michael Carrucan who fought at Fromelles with the Australian forces in the First World War while Adolph Hitler was at Fromelles as part of the German fighting forces.
