Clare in Ireland in 1845, and her other 3 siblings Mary (Cissy) - b 1880, Patrick - b 1878, and Cornelius - b 1884. Honora and her husband Cornelius were both born in Co. Clare but migrated to Australia and all the children were born in Creswick near Ballarat (Victoria).

1880s late - Patrick Carrucan and Mary Carrucan (nee O'Brien)37 viewsPatrick CARRUCAN (1831-1894) married Mary O'BRIEN (1838-1927) some time around 1856 at Ennistimon, County Clare, Ireland. She was 19 and he was 27.
Later in that same year of 1856, they left Ireland, bound for Australia. Once there, they joined Patrick's sister Bridget and her husband John Coleman in Eltham.
This photo, taken some time in the late 1880's shows an elderly couple formally posing for a Richmond photographer. Is this Patrick and Mary? Investigations are continuing.

1880s - Depression Work in Research - the creation of the aquaduct34 viewsLocal farmers had to supplement incomes where possible, especially during the Great Depression of the late 1880's. At that time, able men travelled far and wide in an effort to bring in extra money. One of the Depression initiatives was the building of the aquaduct that carried water from the Maroondah reservoir though the Eltham and Research areas and ended at Reservoir.. This photo shows a gang of men, including my grandfather Michael Carrucan (so I was told by older family members) working at Research.

Due to his health he eventually moved north and worked as a pastoral associate in Charleville, Queensland and then in Texas where he celebrated his Golden Jubilee in 1999. He was ordained a Catholic priest in 2003, and has now retired to Toowoomba.

On the left is Michael O'Heare, a well known local solicitor who was one of the groomsmen at Michael Carrucan's wedding (1910). Michael Carrucan is shown on the right and Michael Carrucan's mother Mary (nee O'Brien) who was born in 1838 in Ireland is in the middle. She would have been around 72 at this time. She eventually died in 1927 aged 89.

Malachi was a great grandson of Patrick Carrucan and Mary O'Brien.

In 1929 he married Eileen Mary Farrelly the only girl in a family of seven boys and they lived in 60a Gold Street Collingwood. This photo shows Eileen with her daughter Kathleen when they visited her son Ivan, who was in training with the Christian Bros at Strathfield in NSW.

1915 approx - Richard Donal (Dick) Lane 1885 - 196629 viewsRichard Donal (Dick) Lane, the grandson of Patrick Carrucan and Mary O'Brien, grew up in Eltham but moved to Western Australia with his parents in 1898, aged 13 years. They settled in Boulder where his parents established the bakery which became known as 'Lane Brothers Bread Factory'. He went to Ireland to study law at Trinity College, taking every prize for which he was eligible in his final year and taking articles at the Inns of Court. Returning to practice in WA, he was known as 'Dick of Dublin'.

She was born on Jul. 18, 1918 in 14 Emerald Street Collingwood and died on Feb. 17, 1957 in Warragul. She married Wilfred Robert Simpson on Oct. 5, 1940 in Melbourne. Wilfred, son of David William Simpson and Amelia Truran, was born on Nov. 18, 1899 in Mount Edgerton Victoria and died on Apr. 1, 1949 in Ringwood Victoria.
Monica and Wilfred had two children, Edna Simpson who was born on Mar. 19, 1942 and Valerie Ann Simpson who was born on Oct. 18, 1943 in Yallourn hospital.

Ned Kent owned the Plenty Pub and pubs in Diamond Creek, Christmas Hills and Bulleen and an orchard in Eltham. He is shown seated on a horse outside the Plenty Pub at Lower Plenty while we think it is Susan seated on the steps with a group of others. As he died in 1907, aged 49, this photo must predate that date.

He married Anna Maria (Mary) Harrington (1888-1976) in 1913 while studying in Ireland and together, they lived a long life. Dick eventually died in 1966 while Mary continued on until 1976.
