LOIS'S PAGE
22 March 1946 - 13 August 2020
It is with a very sad heart that I document Lois's final passing just before 8AM on Thursday 13th August 2020, at home, and with me and our son Paul beside her. Her death was quiet and quick - she was having difficulties breathing for a few minutes, then went into unconsciousness and passed on within another 10 minutes or so.
It had been a long 5 year battle against cancer for Lois and it had a lot of ups and downs, with each down leaving Lois that bit frailer. With her entering palliative care several months ago, we were able to spend a lot of quality time with her and savour our final time together. Of course, the final passing, when it does come, always takes us by surprise and we always wish we could have had those extra few days or weeks or months. But I have many wonderful memories from nearly 42 years of married life together and am so relieved that her passing was as it was.
A small family service was held on Wednesday 19th August at St Linus Church in Merlynston, where we were married all those years ago and where Lois had worshipped all her life. Alas, with funerals restricted to only 10 people, that meant just the immediate family, but the service was live streamed to allow our many friends and wider family to say their own goodbyes to Lois.
Lois will be cremated and then her ashes will be buried in the St Linus memorial garden, alongside her mother and father. This is as per her wish.
It was wonderful that she was able to chat with so many of her old friends over the past month or so. I know that she cherished each and every phone call and exchange, and that you were all in her thoughts to the end.
