THE WEST FAMILY



The West line came into effect when Martha Coleman, the second eldest of the children of Bridget Carrucan and John Coleman, married William George West in 1878 She was 19 years of age at the time of the wedding.

They lived at Eltham until around 1890 when William became the proprieter of the Research Hotel and they moved into residence there. They both lived the rest of their lives in Research, Marth dying in 1924, aged 66, and William dying in 1935, aged 79. They are both buried in the Eltham Cemetery.

The Wests had 13 children, the first 7 born in Eltham and the remaining 6 born at the Research Hotel.

Mabel Alice (1889) - married Alexander Wilson, they had 4 children
Lillian Blanche (Dot) (1890) - married Charles McBain, they had 2 children

Olive Myrtle (Tot) (1895) - married Wilson Thomas, they had 2 children

While it is impossible to discuss all these subsequent family lines in one small web page, suffice it to say that this is a most prolific line with many hundreds of descendants and many different surnames that have branched off the original Research couple.
